Background - Early Education & Exposure
Julian began playing music when he was 8 years old, learning piano from his grandfather. Later, he would enroll in band through his middle school, learning clarinet and expanding his knowledge on music at a young age. Eventually, this led to finding his way to playing acoustic and electric guitar in high school, soon turning his attention to the bass guitar.
After graduating high school, he would continue playing while attending studies at Florida State University, majoring in English Literature and Film Studies. Joining local band Brigand, the band played a pivotal role in expanding his artistic expression on bass, pushing his playing to new lengths while playing shows as the premiere headlining act of the area. The band would record the self-titled full length, “Brigand,” but as their only album release and with different motivations clouding members, the band ultimately was left in an indefinite hiatus.
After graduating from his University in 2010, Julian had become a session player for various bands while living in South Florida. It was in the Miami metal scene that he found a technical death metal group in fruition called Sapraemia. The band rehearsed three initial songs and a new group was formed that focused on creating technically challenging but passionate extreme music.
Sapraemia would later go on to record two EPs while almost immediately playing shows with high caliber touring acts such as Disgorge, Cryptopsy, Aborted, Carnifex and many more. It was this where Julian would gain great reputation amongst the underground metal circuit as a proficiently skilled player.
Bands, Collaborations & Contiguity
As Sapraemia rose through the ranks in the underground, it lead Julian to gain offers to perform with many other high profile bands, first starting with legendary thrash band Solstice to play on their first US tour in years as well as numerous high profile shows. He later gave a plethora of energetic performances with metal outfits including, but not limited to, Hellwitch, Nile, Belphegor, Incantation and Leaves’ Eyes, touring extensively throughout the United States, South America, Europe and Asia.
He now works as a professional bass player as composer, session performer, recording artist and music educator.
Musical Approach
Julian’s musical philosophy centers on serving the song while pushing the limits of what extreme bass can become:
- Precision & Delivery - Lightning-fast runs and intricate riffs executed with surgical accuracy, ensuring clarity even at extreme tempos.
- Harmonic Knowledge - A strong understanding of harmony and chord progressions, allowing him to support and enhance guitar work rather than simply doubling it.
- Technical Proficiency – Advanced fingerstyle and pick techniques while painting tight left and right-hand control that keep extreme tempos clean.
- Groove & Rhythm – Deep pattern and nerve awareness, locking in with the music not just to play it correctly but with proper feel.
- Dynamic Stage Presence – Commanding live performances, high energy, and intensity that match the aggression of the music while maintaining precision.
This combination makes Julian not just the bass, but a core rhythmic and tonal anchor of any lineup.
Beyond the Stage
Outside of touring and recording, Julian remains deeply active in the metal and rock community:
- Session Work – Providing bass tracks for metal and rock productions, from full albums to singles and remote recording sessions.
- Education – Teaching bass technique, rhythm, and music theory, helping players develop both technical skill and musical understanding.
- Gear Reviews & Demos – Showcasing basses, amps, pedals, and accessories, with a focus on real-world metal applications and tone shaping.
- Global Collaborations – Working with underground and independent metal artists worldwide, contributing bass performances and creative input.
Through these activities, Julian continues to influence the next generation of heavy bass players while expanding his own sonic footprint.
